Planting Potatoes at Preschool

We try to have the learning happen both at the farm and at the preschool. At Farm School we planted the potatoes in a trench. As the plants get larger, the soil will gradually be added to the trench and mounded up around the plants so that the potatoes have plnty of soil to grow in. 

At preschool we put soil and compost in the bottom of our pots, and planted the potato pieces low down in the pot.

The plants grow fast! Now they are halfway up the pots. Time for more soil!

And some water to keep them growing. We will fill this pot with soil, and the potatoes will then fill the pot. We can't wait until the end of summer when we can see what we grew!
