Ooey-gooey Ooblek!

Teacher Ellen
What happens when you add spray bottles of colored water to two boxes of corn starch?

You get an ooey-gooey mess called OOblek (the name comes from Dr. Suess, I believe). A lot of sensory and science learning can happen with this type of engagement, as well as communication and cooperation.

How do I direct my spray bottle so that it does not spray the kids across the tub from me? How can I keep my blue area clear from the green you are spraying? First it's a dry, powdery substance, but the more water I add makes it a gooey mix.

If I try to scoop it out of the tub, it breaks into little pieces, and then these pieces melt into goo. I can squeeze a piece into a ball, but when I relax my hands, the ball melts into drippy-ness. It melts from the spatula, to my hand, to your hand, and then back into the tub. It awesome!
