Cupcake!

Teacher Ellen
We read a wonderful book, CUPCAKE, by Charise Mericle Harper. In the story a cupcake is born, a plain, vanilla cupcake. It realizes that no one chooses it because it is so plain, so it goes on a quest (with the help of a friend) to find a topping to make it more interesting. At the end of the book is a recipe for plain vanilla cupcakes. One little girl said, "Let's do that at school!" So we planned to make plain vanilla cupcakes, and we planned for what interesting thing each child could bring to put on their cupcake to make it more interesting.
First we made the cupcakes.

When they were done, we frosted them with plain vanilla frosting.

Then we added the topping we had brought from home, and we named our cupcakes. This is Candy Cane Polk-a-Dot.

And this is Mickey Mouse Cupcake.

This little girl brought two dogs, and named her cupcake Yellow Princess Dog Cupcake.

Here we have an army man and an eyeball ring. It is named Farm Cupcake (go figure...).

One little girl brought several different kinds of sprinkles. She worked carefully to add them all.

Doesn't this look inviting? It's named Rainbow Cupcake.

A parent decorated a cupcake for me, Teacher Ellen. I named it The Orca Class Cupcake (not very original).

The children really used their manners to ask their friends if they could use some of their sprinkles, and everyone shared. It was a wonderful and sweet day!
