Farm School
We had Farm School again this week, with the Educulture Project. Farmer Toby is our farm intern, and he is a great teacher, too! We looked at pumpkin seeds, sugar pumpkins, and giant pumpkins, and we tried to guess which seeds were which. It was easy to tell: these are for the giant pumpkins!
We divided into teams and used our gardening tool to make a hill for the seeds.
We raked the soil into the hill.
After patting it gently, we poked a hole in the hill for the seed.
We put our seeds in the holes and patted it gently again.
Then we leaned forward and whispered something nice to our seed to help it grow.
Back in the greenhouse we picked the tallest plants from the ones we planted on our first Farm School day. We picked the sunflowers.
We took them out in the rain and dug holes for the plants.
Then we took the plant out of the pot and planted it in the hole. We planted the sunflowers in a big circle. We are growing a sunflower house.
We came back in the greenhouse out of the rain, and planted some more seeds. Here we are carrying the heavy watering can to water our seeds.
Farming takes team work!
When the rain stopped, we went outside to see the baby bunnies in the rabbit tractor. We got to hold them. They are so cute. We wonder how big they will be when we come back next time!
