Wildlife Sanctuary

Across the parking lot from our school we have a Certified Wildlife Sanctuary in the woods. We head out several times in the spring to clean up the branches that have come down when the wind blows. It is hard work and we have to work as a team to move the big branches.

We know that the Sanctuary is the animal's home, and we are the guests. It is hard to remember to walk and to use quiet voices when we are there.

We put the branches in a big pile. Way down under the pile of branches are some concrete pipes. These are then covered with large branches, and finally with smaller ones. We are creating a brush pile, home to many different kinds of creatures.
