Learning about transportation
There are so many ways we can travel! Let's explore... We started by seeing how many ways we could think of to get from one place to another. Teacher Kim wrote down our ideas and drew pictures.
We love to sort the vehicles! So many kinds and so many colors!
Since we all came to school in a car or van, we went outside to really look at a car. We started with the thing that unlocks the car door.
There were so many parts, from the lights, to the license plates, to the windshield wipers. We looked at the engine, and we even listened to the horn!
Inside we made a map and put our houses, and the school, and other things on it. Then we drove our cars through paint and onto the map. It was colorful and messy! We had a traffic jam! Oh, no!
One day we took the bus. First we had to wait at the bus stop. When the bus pulled up, we told the driver where we were going and dropped our money in the box.
Then we explored sink and float. We predicted if our item would sink or float, and then we tested them out. Sometimes our prediction was right, and sometimes we were surprised!
We put on our life jackets and went fishing in our boat. There were many colorful fish swimming around our boat.
Then we cooked up the fish and ate them! They were yummy. This purple one tastes like grape.
We even wore our life jackets while we ate real snack! Safety first!
The next day we took a field trip on the ferry. We waited outside the ferry terminal for all of our friends.
Once we boarded the ferry, we watched all of the cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles and bicycles drive on, too! Which one would be last? Finally the gate went down, and the ferry workers untied the ferry and started the engines.
The big engine and propellor made lots of bubbles and waves as we pulled away from the dock.
We got to see all kinds of things on the ferry. We went up on the bridge with the Cheif Mate and saw where the Captain drives the boat. We saw how they have fire hoses and fire axes on the boat for safety.
If you're going to ride the ferry, you will need a ferry schedule so you won't miss the boat!
The life jackets are kept under the seats. One side for grown up ones, and the other side for kid ones.
They were not comfortable!
Here we are on our train. It's a long trip. After we got our tickets, we boarded the train. The conductor punched our tickets. Then we read books and ate pretend snack. It was fun!
