Farm Work at Morales Farm
Summer work continues on our Educulture plot at Morales Farm. This is a fantastic edible education opportunity for our preschool families. We have been doing the necessary weeding of our 30 pumpkin plants, and the weeding and mounding the soil on our 100' of potatoes. All ages of children have found a way to help. Some pick up rocks, some dig in the dirt, and many are very proud of how strong they are to pull the weeds. The children have been learning why weeds are not friends to our potatoes and pumpkins. They have also been worrying about why our potato plants look unhappy. It seems that the potatoes planted at the time we planted ours may be experiencing some type of blight, porbably brought on by the cool, wet spring days. Even Farmer Betsy from Laughing Crow Farm has it. We are hoping hot sunny days in August will help our plants recover. This is an important lesson for little farmers.
