SUMMER ON BAINBRIDGE ISLAND

Teacher Ellen
Well, school is out for the summer break, and we are holding our summer playdates on our playground every Wednesday morning starting at 10:00. It's fun to see the mix of ICP families and families from the community, curious to come and explore our awesome outdoor spaces. I am enjoying not setting my alarm for 5:00 every morning, and having the freedom to choose what I do during my day, and one thing I plan to accomplish this summer break is to figure out how to make technology work easier for me. Between my computer who had a run in with a liquid, and my husband's computer where I hesitate to clog it with umpteen preschool photos and such, I feel a little challenged, but I am up for the challenge!

I have been trying to figure out how to download some farm photos, but seem to be stumped. A quick update on our farming at Morales farm: last week we transplanted the pumpkins we started in the greenhouse in April. That means our potatoes are in, as well as our bee flowers (to bring the pollinators to the farm), and now our pumpkins are in. We have a great ICP sign, painted by the Orca class, as well as smaller signs in one area that direct children to stay on the path. We hope to get a few more educational signs out there. We have two scarecrows: Fancy Pants (from last year) and Betsy (sorry, Farmer Betsy). Fancy Pants has been moved to Suyematsu-Bentryn Farms to sit in the corn field to scare the crows away so we have a good crop of corn to use in the public school lunch program.

Here are a few photos from when we were learning about birds. We "became" birds, and we built nests, comlete with sock "eggs" to sit on. The parent birds had to fly across the school to get some (popcorn) "worms" for the babies to eat. The parents even taught the babies how to fly. What a great way to learn about birds!
