EXPLORING LIGHT, DARK, AND SHADOWS
Every winter, during the dark time of the year as we approach the winter solstice, the children at ICP explore light and dark. We use flashlights, battery tea lights, strings of fairy lights, mirrors, the overhead projector, and many other tools for discovery.
There’s something very cozy about dimming our regular lights and bringing other kinds of light into the space.
The children are fascinated by their shadows.
What makes a shadow? How does my shadow get bigger or smaller? What shapes can I make? What shapes can I make with my friends?
We add things that make color, and things that add shadows, and we add ourselves. Discovery can be fun and fascinating!
