Our Worm Bin!
As a part of learning about waste and consumption through our Eco School goal, we have been learning about composting. The Dolphin class started a worm bin for the school.
We learned that the worms have no eyes or ears. They eat decomposing food and poop out good stuff for our gardens. These are red wigglers, a special kind of worm for the worm bin.
They were cold and wiggly.
Look! A whole handful of worms!
We needed to make their house. We tore up newspaper and egg cartons and got them wet. We carried them out onto the porch to put in the bin.
We added a bucket of nice dirt.
We added some old food, including banana peels, beans, and strawberry stems. Then we put the ball of worms in the bin, covered them up with more newspaper, and tucked them in.
We think they will be happy in our bin, and the Dolphin class will make sure they have everything they need.
Later we made "worm painting" using strings.
