The Orcas Visit Mossback Cafe
One of our farm teachers, Leslee, is the owner of a restaurant called Mossback Cafe in Kingston. To end our fall season with Educulture at the farm, we took a trip to her cafe to spend the afternoon cooking. We all wore colorful aprons.
We were baking fruit pastries. Leslee taught us about the pastry we were going to use.
She carefully showed us how to roll it out,
and then how to cut it.
We cracked some eggs to make an egg wash for the pastry.
A dad helped us cut the pastry into the right size.
We sliced apples and pears.
It took a lot of careful cutting to get the slices just the right thickness.
we couldn't resist playing with the flour.
Then we mixed some cinnamon sugar.
We brushed the edges of the pastry with the egg wash,
loaded them up with apples, pears and cranberries, and closed them up by pressing two corners. We sprinkled them with sugar.
While the pastries cooked, we cleaned up and set the table.
there were pretty plates and colorful napkins, bottles of water, jars of flowers, and we even lit the candles.
Then it was time to eat.
Those pastries were good to the last crumb! Delicious!
When we were finished we took a tour of the restaurant to learn more about how it works. We had a wonderful time, and we thank Farm Teacher Leslee for sharing her talents and restaurant with us!
