Nature Day
Every month the Orca class hold class outside somewhere in a beautiful natural setting. This allows us to have first hand experiences with the natural world and the weather, and it reinforces what we are learning in the classroom. With our exploration of fall, we have learned about deciduous and evergreen trees. Wow! Look how tall that tree is!
We also make many discoveries while out and about. Here is a place fairies would live- a fairy condo!
Maybe fairies live in this hole. One little girls observed that the fairy had left her wings outside so that she wouldn't wear them out.
There are lots of opportunities to figure out what our bodies can do. We climb on logs, walk over two miles on trails full of tree roots. Watch where you're going!
Look how big the roots to this tree are! The wind knocked it over.
Here's a little animal hiding in the forest. We see lots of holes where animals might live, and lots of woodpecker trees full of holes. This time we got to watch a wood pecker work a branch.
We climbed up a big hill,
and then figured out how to come down without falling.
Some of us had fun sliding down the hill on our booties. The Dirty Bum Club!
We practiced being respectful when we got to the big rock cairn. After admiring all of the stacks of small rocks on the giant boulder, we each found something to leave on the rock.
There are so many interesting things to explore in the forest, and it's so much fun to do so with your friends.
These kids are troopers. The trail is about two miles long, and spirits were good the whole way.
We took time out to write in our Nature Journals.
Choosing the colors to match what we had seen in the forest was fun.
